This is Zalinski and Trump take two. And
it felt so very different from that Oval
Office meltdown back in February. There
were European leaders here. There was
laughter,
even a suit.
>> President Zilinski, you look fabulous in
that suit.
>> But how much closer are we to peace?
Here's how the day unfolded. It's just
gone 11:00 a.m. here in Washington at
the White House, and there's a genuine
buzz around the place because it is 6
months since that extraordinary moment
in there in the Oval Office. uh that
clash between Zilinski and US President
Donald Trump.
>> You're gambling with World War III.
>> And Zilinski is back. He will be here in
just a couple of hours time. This time
not alone. He is going to be surrounded
by European leaders who over the course
of just a couple of days since that
summit between Trump and Putin in Alaska
have ripped up their schedules. They're
going to be here alongside President
Zilinski. So those European leaders are
now arriving the other side of the white
house here on the south Portugal. The
NATO secretary general Mark Rutter, the
EU Commission uh President Ursula Vandon
Delay, the British Prime Minister Kia
Star, Italian Prime Minister Gora
Maloney, the Finnish president Alexander
Stub, uh the German Chancellor Frederick
Mertz, and last to arrive the French
president Emanuel MRO. They all using
this relationship that they've built up
with Trump in order to try and persuade
him to back Ukraine and to stick with
it.
>> So, here he is 6 months after that Oval
Office meltdown. He's back at the White
House for a truly unprecedented
gathering.
>> They're inside the Oval Office right now
and it seems to be going so much better
than February.
>> Thank you very much for being here.
>> Thank you so much, Mr. President. If I
can first of all thank you for
invitation and thank you very much for
your efforts. My wife she first lady of
Ukraine.
>> She gave the letter. It's not to you to
your wife.
>> I want
>> It seems that President Zilinski is
adopting what other world leaders have
have used as the strategy here which is
to get in and get out as quickly as
possible to say as little as possible.
It's going well for now.
>> We're going to have a meeting. I think
we're if everything works out well
today, we'll have a triilat and I think
there will be a reasonable chance of
ending the war when we do that.
>> Today have been a lot of attacks and a
lot of wounded people and the child was
dead small one one year and a half. So
we we need to stop this war to stop
Russia and we need support.
>> Well, one of the memorable extraordinary
moments back in February was what
Zalinsky was wearing. He wasn't wearing
a suit and it caused quite a uh quite a
moment. And the journalist who asked him
why he wasn't wearing a suit was was
Brian Glenn. Sorry to interrupt you,
Brian. Um uh you were the journalist who
asked that question.
>> Yeah. Do you think he's going to wear a
suit today?
>> You know, if I had to bet on it, I think
he does wear a suit.
>> Why don't you wear a suit? You're the
highest level in this country's office
and you refuse to wear a suit. Just want
to see if you do you own a suit.
>> Uh I will wear a costume after this war
will finish. President Zilinski, you
look fabulous in that suit.
>> I said the same thing.
>> You look You look good.
>> Yeah, I said the one that attacked you
last time. See, that was
>> I remember that.
>> Why does it matter?
>> Well, you know, this is the highest
office in the world. He's 4,000 plus
miles away from the war zone. This is
2025. I think you come to the suit,
especially when you meet with President
Trump.
>> There we go. The gauntlet runs
successfully. Vladimir Zilinsky in and
out of the Oval Office. It went wholly
different as one European diplomat said
to me. phase one complete. Now onto the
substance with the European leaders,
>> all the leaders who are here and you
help a lot and so we are happy of that
we have such big unity today. Thank you
Mr. President.
>> Thank you very much all of the uh
discussions that we've had. We covered a
lot of territory and uh I spoke
indirectly with President Putin today.
We're going to call President Putin
right after this meeting.
>> So it's just gone past 4 and there's
been a development. the meeting uh that
was taking place with the European
leaders and Trump. That's happening in
the main part of the White House. But
you can see there is a marine now on the
door of the West Wing. That indicates
the president is not in the main part of
the White House uh but in the West Wing
in the Oval Office. And it's our
understanding that he has left the
meeting uh with European leaders to go
back to the Oval Office to take a call
with President Putin. So where are we at
the end of the day? Well, I mean the
first thing to say clearly is that there
have been numerous diplomatic
achievements, but that doesn't mean that
peace is necessarily uh any closer
today. The positives were the fact that
yeah, Trump will like to see it that he
convened the European leaders. He's kind
of sees himself as the great convenor.
He got them all together. That's a
positive from a European perspective. Uh
the fact that Trump is now talking about
security guarantees for Ukraine long
term, that's new. That's something that
he has not been willing to do. In fact,
it was the it was one of the reasons for
the meltdown with Zilinski back in
February. Zilinsky asking for security
guarantees back then, the Americans not
willing to give them. Now, it seems they
are.
>> The fact that you have said I'm willing
to participate in the security
guarantees is is a is a big step is
really a breakthrough and uh it makes
all the difference. take it forward and
I really feel that we can I think um
with the right approach this afternoon
make real progress particularly on the
security guarantees with you coming
alongside the US alongside what we've
already developed I think we could take
a really important step forward today a
historic step
>> but we don't know the detail of these
guarantees what do they look like uh
will they actually work Putin even
accept them we simply don't know and
then of course what is Zilinski willing
to do in terms of of giving giving up
Ukrainian land. He's been so clear that
he doesn't want to give up any, but it
seems from an American perspective that
may be a difficult part of the bargain
that brings peace.
>> The war is going to end and this
gentleman wants it to end and Vladimir
Putin wants it to end. I think the whole
world is tired of it and we're going to
get it ended.
